Global Experiences Scholarship

Participating in a Global Experience can help students refine their academic and career goals, while building confidence and independence. It also gives students time to share their experiences and insights with their classmates in their remaining undergraduate years. But many students wonder how to plan ahead to fund their experience.

The Global Experiences Scholarship is open to all students at Nebraska, regardless of when they plan to participate in a Global Experience. It is what we call a "planning scholarship," which allows students to plan their experience after they've been awarded the scholarship. Awardees must use the scholarship within three academic years of it being awarded.

Up to 100 awards are available each year. Priority is given to students with demonstrated financial need and students who are members of certain learning communities and scholar groups. 20% of the scholarships available are reserved for students who demonstrate merit. Award amount is $3,000.

Qualifications

  1. Must be enrolled as a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
  2. Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at UNL.
  3. Must use the scholarship within three years of awarding toward a Global Experience.
Recipient Requirements
  • Students may apply early and defer the award to a later term, but they must use the scholarship within three academic years of receiving it.
    • Note: Transfer students are eligible but must have at least one semester remaining at UNL after the experience abroad.
  • Receive at least 3 academic credits for the experience. Exceptions will be made for short-term UNL Faculty-Led and UNL Co-Sponsored programs that are intentionally designed to be 1 or 2 credits.
Students are reminded to apply to the term in which they are submitting an application for the Global Experiences Scholarship, and NOT to the term in which they are planning to go abroad. For example, a student submitting an application during the Spring 2021 term but going abroad in the Fall 2021 term, should only submit an application to the Spring 2021 term, and NOT to the Fall 2021 term.
