PROGRAM LOCATION
Aix-en-Provence, on the main road from northern France to Italy, allows easy access to Paris, Geneva, London, and other European capitals. Both a university town and a legal center, Aix offers an intellectual environment beneficial to all students. René d'Anjou, Mirabeau, Cézanne, Zola, and Milhaud are among the natives who have left their mark on the city and its inhabitants. Music festivals, libraries, museums, churches, markets and cafés attract tourists and students alike.
ACADEMIC INSTITUTION
The
Institute for American Universities, now
IAU College, is designed for U.S. college students spending a semester abroad. It is located in a restored 17th century chapel. Classes are offered in English and French, which you will take with students studying abroad from the United States. Class sizes range from 10 to 35 students and often use experiences around the city as part of the course.
You can learn more about the program via the IAU College link above.
COURSE INFORMATION
IAU College Courses Available
All students must take a French language course. Students choose courses from Aix's many offerings that best meet their individual academic and personal needs. Students with an advanced proficiency in French may elect to enroll in the
French Honors Program (available fall and spring semesters) or classes with local French students at the Université d'Aix-Marseille (only during the spring semester).
Students also have the opportunity to enroll in an internship course. Please click
HERE to learn more about the internships offered in Aix-en-Provence.
HOUSING
Students are housed in home stays with local families. Living in a French home provides an introduction into the community and is a great incentive to learning the language. All home stay placements are made on the students' behalf by IAU College. IAU's hosts are carefully chosen and many have hosted American students for several years.
